Paris, FRANCE, January 25, 2018 – Today Sigfox, the world’s leading IoT connectivity service provider, announced that Chile, Ecuador, Panama and El Salvador have become part of its global IoT network, bringing the total number of countries in the LATAM region up to nine, after previous network expansions into Argentina, Brazil, Colombia, Costa Rica and Mexico, in 2016 and 2017.
These new contracts have been negotiated in collaboration with Sigfox’s regional partner, WND Group, through the creation of a series of partnerships with local companies who will become exclusive Sigfox Operators in these four countries:
· Chile: MINTEK
· Ecuador: SEMGROUP
· Panama & El Salvador: COGNIX
The deployment of Sigfox’s technology, which will start in major cities in Q1 2018, will bring IoT connectivity to more than 465M people in an area of 17M km2. These new partnerships will play a major role in the economic growth of the region and provide developers with a reliable, global technology that will enhance industrial processes, increase business performance and, ultimately, improve people’s everyday lives.
“BY THE END OF 2018, WE EXPECT TO EXTEND OUR NETWORK ACROSS 60 COUNTRIES AND THIS PARTNERSHIP PROVES THAT WE ARE ON TRACK TO ACHIEVE OUR GOAL. LATIN AMERICA IS SEEING A STRONG ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT AND IT IS A KEY REGION FOR OUR EXPANSION PLANS,” SAID RODOLPHE BARONNET-FRUGÈS, EXECUTIVE VP OF OPERATORS AT SIGFOX. “WE ARE GLAD TO HAVE PARTNERED WITH WND GROUP ONCE AGAIN, TO HELP US DELIVER ON SIGFOX’S VISION FOR A SEAMLESS GLOBAL NETWORK. THE ADDITION OF THESE LATEST COUNTRIES WILL BRING NEW OPPORTUNITIES TO MANY COMPANIES LOOKING FOR SOLUTIONS TO TAKE THEIR BUSINESSES TO THE NEXT LEVEL.”
CHRIS BATAILLARD, CEO OF WND GROUP, STATED: “WITH THE ADDITION OF THESE FOUR COUNTRIES, WND LATAM IS NOW PRESENT IN COUNTRIES REPRESENTING 82% OF THE GDP OF THE LATAM REGION. OUR PROVEN TEAM OF TEAMS APPROACH WILL ENABLE WND GROUP TO PROVIDE HIGHLY SCALABLE SIGFOX COVERAGE TO OVER 465M PEOPLE IN THE NEXT 18 MONTHS.”
In Latin America, Sigfox’s low cost, low energy consumption services represent a solution for companies from a range of sectors, including security, logistics, mining, electricity, water and gas companies that have struggled to implement widespread connected solutions, due to the high costs they entailed. These distribution agreements will also enable countries to address matters of general interest, as well as environmental issues such as illegal logging, fishing control, natural disaster prevention, and the protection of their architectural heritage.
