LABÈGE, France, TALLINN, Estonia, December 1st, 2016. Sigfox, the world’s leading provider of connectivity for the Internet of Things (IoT), and Connected Finland, the exclusive Sigfox operator in Finland, today announced the roll-out of the network in Estonia. Connected Baltics is the local branch of Connected Finland and the exclusive Sigfox operator in the country.
In just a decade, Estonia has managed to become one of the most promising start-up nations, thanks to government initiatives that fueled a massive program to bring web connections to previously ignored rural areas. The Estonian government has also nurtured startup companies into global businesses by providing them with services and a supporting environment that helped create a new philosophy and can-do attitude for aspiring Estonian tech-entrepreneurs.
“Estonia is producing more start-ups per head of population than any other country in Europe. The country also has one of the world’s most advanced e-governments that have paved the way for a number of globally successful Estonian startups and built a huge community of developers.” said Rodolphe Baronnet-Frugès, Sigfox executive vice-president networks & operators.
“This positions the country to become a European leader in terms of quick adoption of the IoT and invention of exciting new applications for industry, business and personal use. We have seen this entrepreneurial spirit already demonstrated strongly by Connected Finland and couldn’t think of a better partner to make IoT a short term reality in Estonia.”
Connected Finland is a company created in October 2015 by an experienced team of Finnish telco professionals, and backed by well-known industrial investors and a group of private angel investors. They are all committed to quickly adding Estonia to the world’s fastest-emerging mass market IoT network.
“We are really excited to get the opportunity to extend our businesses across the Gulf of Finland. During the last year we have experienced a very good traction in Finland and aroused huge enthusiasm for Sigfox’s offering. In addition to the vibrant start up community in Estonia, many major Finnish customers are developing innovative solutions in both countries, and we can see a lot of synergies in multiple segments including insurance, retail and logistics.” stated Markku Patronen, CEO and co-founder of Connected Finland.
The deployment of Estonia was announced today at Slush 2016 in Helsinki, by Ludovic Le Moan, CEO of Sigfox, and Markku Patronen.
Sigfox is well on track to be in 30 countries by the end of 2016.
